Perhaps the students of the athletics focused Gorin High School, led by over-the-top baseball star Shoma Sawamura, could be the characters behind a new series of quirky sports titles from Capcom. Games in this genre can have surreal physics and elements that make it feel more like an arcade game. The Mario Sports games from Nintendo have proven that you don’t need a true-to-life simulation of the sport with real athletes as playable characters to have a fun sports game. The current series that Capcom seems to want to focus on all fit into different genres, but sports games are not among them. While another fighting game from this series would certainly be welcome, the idea presented here leans towards a different genre with specific characters from this series.

This time, we’ve got a 3D fighter based on a roster of high school students and faculty duking it out, Street Fighter style. Even if a Darkstalkers 4 isn’t in the cards, other things can be done to give this dog his day. Outside of a sequel to the series, the story of Jon’s quest to control his inner beast and protect the humans that fear him could provide the fuel for a good action-focused story, either pivoting the series from fighting games to action games, a stand-alone solo game, or even just a DLC crossover in Devil May Cry. Most of the more monstrous guys of the franchise have been left to sit in obscurity, never officially appearing outside their home series, including, ironically, one of the more popular characters in the franchise, the kung-fu werewolf, Jon Talbain. The most attention this horror-adjacent series of superpowered monsters has gotten is with a few of its characters, mostly just Morrigan and Felicia, appearing in a crossover title here and there. You knew someone from Darkstalkers would be on here eventually.ĭespite having one of the more vocal fanbases of the Capcom community, the Darkstalkers series of fighting games hasn’t had a new entry in over 20 years, not counting the occasional rerelease. I’ll only be looking at one character per franchise and I’ll be ignoring any characters or series where the only good idea to build on or expand the character’s story or capabilities is to just make a sequel to the most previous game, with no specific ideas on how to change things up. Taking everything here into consideration, with the Resident Evil 2 remake having had a considerable amount of success due to its positive critical reception and solid sales, Capcom could very well decide to remake other IPs in its back catalog, including Dino Crisis. Unfortunately, no official word has been shared thus far if the series will be revived. As rumor has it, Capcom Vancouver was once approached to do a reboot of the Dino Crisis franchise, but chose to work on the unreleased Knights of Aegis in 2013 instead.

It has been quite some time since the last Dino Crisis was released, with the third numbered entry in the series having been put out for the original Xbox back in 2003, so there's a good chance that this Resident Evil 2 mod is Crazy Potato's way of saying that they would enjoy seeing a new installment soon.
